NONPROFIT RESOURCES
Legal Aid Society’s Community Development Legal Assistance Program supports community-based nonprofit organizations working on issues of concern to low income people and communities in Louisville and fourteen surrounding Kentucky counties. We can help with needs such as:
Articles of Incorporation and bylaws
Conflict of Interest and other policies
Applications for tax-exempt status
Compliance with laws regarding nonprofits
IRS requirements, issues and questions
Legal help on special projects
We work with both existing and emerging nonprofits. To qualify for our services an organization must apply and must (1) primarily consist of or primarily serve low income individuals who meet Legal Aid’s individual client eligibility guidelines, (2) be dedicated to improving the lives of people with low income and/or the quality of life in low-income neighborhoods within Legal Aid’s service area, (3) have in place a board of directors or organizing committee, (4) be unable to afford an attorney and (5) meet Legal Aid’s priorities, case acceptance policies and eligibility guidelines.
